Catnip is a perennial herb. It is a member of mint family of herbs and is originated in regions of Europe. Catnip herb can grow to a height of up to 3 feet with a spread of 15 inches. Catnip plants have fuzzy, grayish-green leaves and small, white flowers that bloom in the summer. The flowers, leaves and stem are cut while the plants are in full flower and then dried for use in herbal preparations. Herbal tea, made using catnip can be a cure for nervousness, influenza, cold and fevers. The herb is also helpful in curing insomnia, stress and intestinal discomfort. The herb is used as a relaxant, sedative and antispasmodic in herbal remedy. Catnip is also an astringent, and can be applied externally to cuts and scrapes to stop bleeding and promote healing.
