Feverfew is a short perennial herb and is a member of sunflower family. Feverfew products usually consist of dried feverfew leaves, but all parts of the plant that grow above ground may also be used for medicinal purposes. Feverfew has been used to reduce fevers and swelling, in the treatment of arthritis, asthma, female reproductive problems, toothaches and headaches. It has been used to relieve indigestion, as an air purifier, and as an insect repellent and balm. Feverfew is also said to be good as syrup for coughs, wheezing and breathing difficulties. Feverfew tea may be made by soaking about one teaspoonful of dried feverfew leaves in 5 to 8 ounces of boiling water for 5 to 10 minutes. Once the solids have been strained out, this tea may be consumed as often as desired. It may also be applied to the skin as an insect repellent.
