Yarrow is a perennial herb, native to Europe and Asia. It can be recognized by its highly segmented leaves and the clusters of daisy-like white or lavender flowers at the top of the stalk. The entire plant has a strong, pungent odor and a bitter taste. Yarrow is a very valuable medicinal herb. The whole herb, or above-ground parts, of the yarrow plant are used for medicinal purposes. This includes flowers, leaves, and stems. Yarrow is used against colds, cramps, fevers, kidney disorders, toothaches, skin irritations, and hemorrhages, and to regulate menses, stimulate the flow of bile, and purify the blood. Yarrow herb as well possesses anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-allergic effects.
